INTERNATIONAL PROGRAM

The International Program provides a glimpse into the remarkable talents of filmmakers from around the world.

This year we have partnered with two prestigious international festivals, each very different in flavour but very similar in their ability to attract and screen consistently remarkable, thoughtful and inspirational films.

Annecy International Animation Festival is regarded as the premier animation event on the international film calendar and the Cork Film Festival, each year screens the cream of Irish Cinema.

We present two programs from each festival. The films, recent prize winners and audience favourites from the past few years will entertain, provoke and delight you.

THE BEST OF ANNECY INTERNATIONAL ANIMATED FILM FESTIVAL: 1997 - 2011

Since it began in 1960, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival has continually promoted animation in all its different forms and is now regarded as the preeminent animation festival in the world.

An annual event from 1997, the films submitted have doubled in number with 2460 entries received in 2012. This huge quantity reflects the rapid developments in technology in our world of constant transformation.

Annecy has always supported and rewarded both recognised and emerging artists. The two programs presented here are testimony to this, showcasing the huge diversity of prizewinning films from 1997 to 2011.

These programs have an emphasis on humour and are a reference for the animation community and Annecy expatriates all over the world.

As you view these films, we are only two weeks away from our 2012 festival and we are really pleased and honoured to take part in the 2012 St Kilda Film Festival.

We wish you a great festival!

IRISH SHORTS:
FOCUS ON CORK FILM FESTIVAL

This program includes films which represent an Ireland that is familiar and conforms to outsiders’ views of the country. But it also includes those that challenge and confound people’s views of Ireland. In the recent productions of this program we see not just the emergence of a new Irish cinema but a reflection on a new Ireland, a new chapter in our national journal.

I hope that the Focus on Cork will deepen your understanding of Ireland,
will bring to your attention new and talented filmmakers but mostly I hope you will enjoy the imagination, the wit and the cinematic pleasures of these fine films.

Mick Hannigan
Director, Cork Film Festival
