Submission Guidelines for 2026 St Kilda Film Festival

File Naming Convention

Please use the following naming convention when uploading your film:

Film Title – Audio Format (Stereo or 5.1) – Frame Rate

Example: The Big Lebowski – 5.1 – 25p

Required Video Format

SKFF will screen QuickTime files as per the specifications below:

  • Container: QuickTime (.mov)
  • Supported Video Codecs: Apple ProRes 422 or H.264
  • Resolution: 1920 × 1080
  • (The Festival does not screen in 4K. 4K files will be downscaled in the media server.)
  • Frame Rate: 25p (progressive)
  • Data Rate: Up to 150 Mbit/s

Important:
The Festival screens content at 25p. Files supplied in 23.98, 24p, 29.97 or other frame rates may not screen correctly, so if possible please supply a 25p version of your screener.

Subtitle Files for Open Captioned Sessions

To increase accessibility, the Festival will screen selected ‘Mixtape’ sessions with open captions, as well as a select few other sessions.

Alongside your film, please supply a subtitle file as a separate .srt file to ensure your film can be included in these sessions. If not provided, we may reach out to ask for an .srt file or ask if you are comfortable for us to produce one on your behalf.

Required Audio Format

The St Kilda Film Festival can screen films in stereo (2.0) or 5.1 channel surround sound.

Audio Delivery Requirements

To ensure smooth playback during the Festival, all films must:

  • Contain audio embedded within the QuickTime (.mov) file.
  • Be supplied with a single embedded audio stream containing the correct channel configuration (e.g. stereo 2.0 or 5.1).
  • Not contain multiple discrete or separate mono audio tracks.

Please ensure that:

  • Audio is exported as one combined audio stream.
  • Channels are correctly mapped and allocated (see specifications below).
  • No additional unused, split, or duplicate audio tracks are included in the file.

Files delivered with multiple discrete mono tracks, incorrect channel mapping, or separate audio files may result in playback issues and could require re-delivery.

If you are unsure about your export settings, please consult your post-production team prior to submission.
